Master of Fine Arts (MFA)

Fine art is the form of an art developed for aesthetics which is a branch of philosophy grappling with the nature of beauty and taste, and with the innovation and admiration of beauty instead for practical application. Art is often used synonymously for fine art. Dancing is one of the modest fine art forms which are related to apparent motion of the body in rhythm to music. Dance is the way of expression, non-verbal communication and interaction with one’s facial expression and body language between humans. Even the non-verbal communication  between animals like bee dance or any pattern of their behavior such as a mating dance, movements in non-living objects like the leaves moves with the wind, gymnastics, skating, swimming and many musical styles are considered as dance pattern.

The Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Dance degree is conceived to groom graduate students for careers in public performance, presentation, and choreography etc.  

There are many dance schools and institutes dedicated to provide mingled and united environment to offer a creative access to dance. Curriculum of MFA comprise of dance technique, choreographic studies, dance principles, dance history, and the business of entertainment dance. MFA in dance degree offer 2 year program for training of candidates who have solid interest and quality in pursuing dance at the graduate level. Choreography and public performance and presentation are the focus of the 2 year program with additional knowledge in production, study of history of dance, and principles applied to the teaching and performance of dance. The MFA in Dance grant students to take full benefit of the resources provided by the Department of Theatre and Dance, and the College of Fine Arts. Development in new technology has opened the doors of new possibilities for the dance artists.

MFA degree is valuable only if one manage to get a minimum specified grade in this course. The thesis is also a part of MFA degree and normally requires a public presentation or performance of original choreography along with supporting production elements and paper work.

Many institutes have gained reputation for excellence in the industry of entertainment. Graduates in master of fine arts in dance have opportunity to perform in venues such as regional theatre, national and international tours, cruise ships, commercials, television, film, and the reality shows. MFA students have the option of being teaching fellows and teach the equivalent courses at the undergraduate level each year. Today graduates of MFA in dance degree are equally successful as the graduates of any other discipline.
